The Never Ending Quest - Episode 92318

Lilith

Okay, something just is NOT adding up here about this whole situation. Granted, it seems that somehow that the Agents (being the wardens of all chaotic things including situations and adversity for Quests) must make things as difficult as needed. That would account maybe for some of that . . .difficulty we had with the Emperor earlier. Rei did shout a number of things at him (mostly insults after the command authorization codes of Warmaster Horus failed to even cause the Emperor to pause in him being . . .something of a berk).

After everything came to light, it was bloody obvious just WHY the Emperor DID not recognize the codes that Rei had inadvertently learned from Horus in that painful mind to mind they had together earlier.

Full of questions are we? Okay. I’ll oblige. Not like everyone out there lived and breathed military terms and strategy, eh? I and my sisters here kind of “grow up” with it while being in that para-military organization known as NERV.

Lord In Heaven knows what kind of failure and joke that place had ultimately turned out to be compared to the real deal, but then again we at NERV had taken our mission seriously enough to take on airs when we went from being a research unit into (what we thought) was a pretty good replica of a combat unit.

Oh, we did manage to kill Angels. Something the “real” military types (the traditional types) never could do. But . . .

Uh, back to the story at hand and instead of strolling down memory lane.

Alright, as put down in the Star Trek Memory Alpha website) to give you an idea of the thing I’m talking about is these codes? Well…

”The command authorization code (or simply authorization code) was an alphanumeric sequence used by militaries to allow access to certain command protocols and restricted information. It was also known as a voice authorization code, command code, or access code.”

They call it something different in the Warhammer reality. Something pseudo Latinish gibberish (I mean REALLY!) term which could take longer to say and then explain to a listener than it would be worth but the idea Is the same.

It should have been enough to get the Emperor to listen to us long enough to us directly instead of trying to pry it out of Horus’ head who of COURSE had been killed deader than dead in their final battle before the Emperor (the 40K version anyway…remember that “our” Horus was from the 30K and all that). I mean even IF the Emperor (like many Psykers) had the ability to snuff out the very soul (as those of the 30K/40K universe, Terra Prime magic theory is . . .different), making them “deader than dead”. That would have been enough except for the little things like ten thousand years (and an alternate timeline) getting in the way.

Was there more to it than that?

It’s because of our newest (as of yet unmet) sisters there?

Looking first at her lavender blue haired --periwinkle a pedantic voice within her head supplied—sister, Yukido, on one side and then over at the image of the yet unnamed pale aqua. Rei knew that things were. . .different with this new reality Yukiko haled from: the Evangelion: Rebuild. Her new sister piloted a EVA that was twice as tall (and probably more powerful to boot) as her 40 meter tall mecha/cyborg . At a guess, it would appear that EVERYTHING in this reality was bigger and with a bigger budget. Heck, even entire neighborhoods of Yuki’s Tokyo 3 could be collapsed at a command from the control room of NERV if such a need (like say a positron laser armed Angel would be attacking/destroying . . .oh . .. EVA unit 01) instead of a measly electro-elevator. Over the top expensive but MAN!!

”So . . .they managed to actually create another ‘Plastic Soul’ from the prototype Magi computer system?” Rei guessed, trying to figure out this latest twist.

Sure, the presence of another Champion in the mix might mean an upping of the adversity here (Agents have to keep things in balance and all that else the other Offices could get . . .pissy if they think we’re getting a free ride on our Quests), but still…

”Wait,” the Master blinks, taking his eyes off of Astra and back to Rei. As fantastic as Astra --something that appeared to at least give the basis to the angels of myth and legend a basis in fact as far as the Time Lord was concerned—was, such wasn’t going to keep the Master (or the Doctor truth be told) distracted forever.

Hey, in the Whoniverse they had things larger than the Timelords you know. Things like the Black and White Guardian and all that so that can be said! It was canon fact, as it were. “While you mentioned that . . . pardon for perhaps being a touch crass,” the Master continues. Evil he may be but at least he was a polite and affable evil. “You and your sisters had been the clone pilot/soldiers made because your creators had for some hare brained reason deemed you failures, why the surprise?”

”Because as far as she and her sisters (except for Lilith) understood it” Xander interrupts before Rei can even BEGIN to explain it. “There can only be one activated clone at a time because of the way they’re built. There’s this big aquarium filled with a basically is blood from a giant alien body they’ve got hung up on a cross that’s always bleeding from where they tore off the legs.”

The blood in question is an oxygenated liquid that provides a EVA pilot oxygen while they drive around their EVA. It also acts as a shock absorber as well as helps the physic linkage the Pilot needs to be able to connect with their EVA to make it perform. There is some debate on what exactly the liquid, LCL, actually stands for (either Lilith Corpse Liquid or Linkage Control liquid), but that’s by the by.

” That and the tanks full of soulless, blank Rei bodies down in the basement of NERV you see,” Xander continues, on a roll recalling some of the more ‘freaky’ facts about the anime series. “Spare parts and spare bodies and . . .”

”Xander stop right now!” Willow bellows at her long time friend, seeing that . . . her friend’s kind of gone too far here by the way Rei and her sisters are glaring at him.

“Yeah,” Reika muttered, feathers clearly ruffled. “I must thank you Xander for sharing that with everyone in such a warm and well thought out manner.“

”That kind thought out wording was rather like the insults you did me and my wife earlier last night,” the husband of Setsuna Serenity adds in a calm seeming voice as he holds a rose. A rose that seems . . .rather more dangerous than what the Master ever recalled seeing on the TV show he used as research.

  1. Its the kind of rose that has such sharp and jagged thorns that fingers could easily be lost to it. A rose found around a certain Dark Tower (ala Stephen King's Gunslinger).
