Rounding things out

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 91073

Some of those here in the library who had not been privy to Rei's schemes are wondering at the young clone's sanity.

"Why are you trying to HIRE him?!" Principal Snyder (of all people) finally blurts out, clearly at a loss. "You’re supposedly a hero here and you’re hiring a VILLIAN to do your dirty work!?"

"What?" Yukiko interrupts whatever Rei looked like she was going to snap back at the principal (something involving him being as brilliant as his television counterpart who’d earned ‘a Darwin Award’ by standing around and protesting instead of running from a certain mayor turned snake demon). "Sir, I fail to understand the need for your question. Is it not obvious why?"

Yukiko

"Once we part our ways with him there will be no way to enforce our will directly upon him," I begin, starting on a list of just WHY we attempted to hire the Master and ending with…

"And it’s not like we could try anything as immoral as using mind control magicks even IF I and my sisters so inclined!" the youngest clone finished up, more than a little heat in her voice. "Besides the fact such magicks would have left the victim little more than a poorly coordinated robotic slave when we need an operative to be in TOP performance—something that robotic slaves ARE NOT in the habit of being— it would NEVER be able to last long enough to be of use."

"Heh," Xander Harris mutters to himself, remember all that medication Rei had been that the anime during that one disastrous visit Shinji Ikari paid her to deliver a new NERV ID card. "Du Pont’s full of crap and nothing BUT crap. ‘Better living through chemistry’ indeed!"

Rei and he sisters had had special medical requirements to keep their special genetic heritage from eventually killing them. A drug regime that could and probably would have killed an ordinary human girl kept the half human/half Angel girl’s hybrid genetics from destroying her from the inside out had been used, but quiet a few "extras" had been added to the regime that had kept her . . .mentally docile and prone to follow orders.

Too close to home for poor Yukiko’s taste when she had brought up the subject of magical mind control. Hm, wonder why much?

The Master, meanwhile, is looking like he’s vaguely insulted by this turn of events (being that he IS in the habit of using mind control from time to time) but isn’t rising to take offense right now, at least.

"Besides . . .he’s rather akin to another Doctor Who character who had the oddest ability to be able to wear an armored space glove like a hat without looking utterly ridiculous," Fred put in, giving the Master a meaningful glance. "He’s rather . . .indomitable that way, you know."

"Oh!" Betty blinked, remember that one shaman from the episode called ‘The Face of Evil.’

It all made much more SENSE now! And here she had been thinking that the clones had been taking an easy out by just trying to BRIBE the Master into behaving (and thinking them utterly foolish to think such could work) while saving her world. They had been trying to hire the Master in saving the Earth of HIS reality...

Well, it . .. It still might not work but at least they were trying an angle that just MIGHT work insteado just writing that OTHER Earth off. AND The Master seemed rather DESPERATE in wanting this talisman the clone magic users seemed to know something about and SEEMED to see himself (actually SEE himself!!) as something of a business man, open to negotiation.

Maybe it could work... Maybe.

Some others were thinking something along the same lines and some were distracted enough by such lines of thinking so as to be not thinking enough along OTHER lines of thought. That is, lines of thought that should perhaps not be spoken aloud, perhaps?

Hey! It happens to the best of them...

"That’s right!" Giles said, snapping his finger and making connections. "You can’t really control the mad and . . .Oh sbugger, I just said that out loud, didn’t I?"

  1. "You did indeed," the Master said, chuckling darkly. Clearly NOT amused.
