Fred's Dream

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 9048

Fred dreamed he was walking through the TARDIS corridors. Astra was by his side. The Doctor and his companions were behind him. They were walking in a direction that Fred knew was toward the center of the TARDIS. It seemed to grown darker and more menacing as they moved toward the center, but Fred moved on.

Then, they reached the exact center of the TARDIS. The Doctor found a lever and pulled it. Fred saw, to his horror, that the wall had moved up revealing a giant eye!

The scene changed. Fred found himself in a strange, gothic place. He was surrounded by men in strange clothing that looked somehow ceremonial. The Doctor was examining the eye. "Hmmm..." he said. "This isn't right. This isn't right at all."

"What isn't right?" asked Fred.

Then, the eye turned yellow and catlike.

The Doctor and his companions felt themselves falling through the floor. They landed on a strange jungle planet. Giant flying squirrels descended from the sky. Astra screamed in pain.

"What's wrong?" asked Fred.

"They're killing the innocent plants!"

"Come on, Astra. The plants are just plants."

"No! They're alive! They're sentient!"

That startled Fred. The idea of sentient plants was certainly a new one to him. Astra screamed again and fell to the ground. Fred picked her up and held her in his arms. Astra came to and screamed again. Then, she kissed him.

"Why did you do that?" asked Fred. Astra didn't answer. Then, he looked into her eyes. She had a strange look in them, as if she was possessed. She grabbed Fred and held him in place. Fred struggled, but she held him fast. Then, a man came. He was devilishly handsome, with a beard and goatee, wearing strange black glasses of a sort Fred had never seen before...

Then, Fred woke up.

Fred discussed the dream over breakfast. He told the dream to the Doctor and his companions. "I don't know what to make of it. It was much more menacing than my previous dream."

"The Eye of Harmony! The eye in your dream was a metaphor for the Eye of Harmony," said the Doctor. "This is dire indeed."

"What's the Eye of Harmony?" asked Ragan.

"It is the power source of my TARDIS and of all the Time Lords."

"Is it in the TARDIS?" Fred asked.

"Yes and no," answered the Doctor. Fred didn't quite know what the Doctor meant by that, but didn't ask, because he was sure that he couldn't possibly understand it.

"Anyway," said Ragan, "the bearded guy sounds like the Master."

"Who is the Master?" asked Fred.

"The Master is my greatest enemy. He is another Time Lord, and he is pure evil."

"What's a Time Lord?"

"The Time Lords are my race. It would take too long to explain fully. Anyway, obviously the Master is involved."

"Yeah, but why was he wearing shades?" asked Inquierer.

"I think I know," said Betty. "This sounds like the Doctor Who TV Movie from my reality. That was the one where the Doctor fell in love. In that movie, the Master sort of turned into some kind of Death Snake. He took over somebody's body and attempted to destroy the world. As the Death Snake, he could possess people with his venom. That sounds like what happened to Astra in the dream."

"Interesting," said the Doctor. "But why would the Master from an alternate reality be in the Eye of Harmony from my reality?"

"Excuse me," asked Fred, "what is a TV-Movie?"

"It's too hard to explain," said Betty. "Anyway, what do we do now?"

The Doctor suggested...

  1. "We should take a look at the Eye of Harmony."
  2. "We should materialize on the planet and get to the bottom of the sentient-plant thing first."
