Though Fred was tired, he had wondered if he might find it difficult to
get to sleep.
Though the bed was more comfortable than any he had slept in for many a
month, he had had
a very strange and eventful day, finishing up in this strange place called
the TARDIS, with these peculiar people in their outlandish clothes. Not the
least strange thing had been the bathroom, where hot or cold water could be
made to flow from a device which the Doctor referred to as a "tap" but
that Ragan and Betty
called a "faucet". So much better than what he was used to, where having a
bath
would involve getting one's servant to bring several pails of water from
the pump
or well.
Astra had been delighted with the bathroom, and had spent the better part of an hour inside it. She had been less pleased with the night-clothes that Ragan had found for her - pink pyjamas - pointing out that apart from anything else the colour clashed with her red hair, but had eventually accepted that she could hardly sleep in her armour and that there was unlikely to be anything better in her size amongst the rather eccentric range of night attire to be found in the TARDIS's wardrobes. Fred had never shared a bedroom with a woman before, but Astra by contrast seemed quite unabashed by the situation. Fred thought of her as he drifted off to sleep.
