"You probably know him quite well, he's Fred D'Honaire!" "Fred D'Honaire!" "That's what I said." "The same Lord Fred of Suffex, Allaria?" "Well, yes and no." "You can't send me to that negligent bastard, he was responsible for my death!" "I understand your concern, ma'm, but..." "No! You do not!" Behind her, the crowd waiting to be attended was stirring. Maybe they couldn't hear her, but her gesticulation was much too loud to ignore. "If you will listen for a moment, you'll understand that I'm referring to another Fred" "Another Fred?" "That's what I said." "How can there possibly be another Lord Fred D'Honaire of Suffex, Allaria?" "Because this is a Fred that was squashed by a boulder." Taken off guard, Astra couldn't manage to say anything more than "What?" "You see, this Fred is from another universe, from an alternate timeline!" "An alternate timeline?" echoed Astra. "Yes. I know you've read quite a bit about the concept while in your palace. He never met you, but has been following his other-timeline selves." "I'm not sure I understand." "When this Fred died and came here, he became assistant to Saint Peter. When the 'Fred's of the other universes die, they'll also come here, so we must keep an eye on them. Fred has used this to observe his alternate selves, and the alternate 'you's" Astra nodded. "Well then, please prepare yourself, let's go meet him." And with that, they disappeared. When they reappared, Astra found herself face to face with the face of the man she had cared for, for so long; the face responsible for her death. She realized she hadn't been prepared, and was only capable of one response:
