"I gave the King my word that I would not give up my quest until the
dragon had been killed or I died in the attempt," Fred said. "Once my
quest is done,
then assuming I live I will gladly
give you all the help I can, but not before. Perhaps you would help me to
defeat
the dragon in return for my aid afterwards in defeating the Dark Gods? For
I confess I could use all
the help I can get. And bear in mind one thing: if
I am killed by the dragon, then you will have lost your Dreamer, your
seer."
"That is a powerful argument for me to help you," said Astra. "And besides it would seem only fair that if you are to aid me in my quest then I should aid you in yours. Though my people's situation is desperate, I don't suppose that the few days - or at worst weeks - it will take us to track down and destroy the dragon will make much difference. After all, I have already been searching for one such as you for six long years...
