The Doctor, already looking worried, seemed even more so when he heard the
bell.
"What's that?" asked Stacy. "The cloister bell," the Doctor replied. "It's
the TARDIS's
equivalent of a warning klaxon, alerting me that there is a serious threat
to its
- and therefore our - continued existence. Perhaps I made a mistake with
the co-ordinates
and asked it to materialise somewhere impossible."
As the Doctor hurriedly rechecked the co-ordinates, Stacy found herself diverted from worrying about the danger they were apparently in by wondering why the TARDIS should have a cloister bell. Did that imply that it had a cloister? So far she had only seen the control room. It was evident from that room alone that the TARDIS was much larger on the inside than on the outside, but how much more of it was there on the other side of the door that she could see, which presumably led to the remainder of the TARDIS's interior?
