Gilmuriel stared intently at the board, pondering B'elanna's latest move. "Qapla?" he said. "Since when was that a word?"

"It is in Klingon. It means 'success.' How can you have been married to me for ten years and not know that?"

"We're not using Klingon in this game, B'elanna. We're playing in English, remember? It's not in the dictionary."

"It's common knowledge where I'm from. And besides, you got to use "zarstad.""

"That's AI slang. Come on, it's totally English. Why are you even trying to play Klingon words, anyway? You're not really a Klingon, you're a..."

"...Golem who was programmed to think she was a Klingon and then turned into an Elf. I know. I don't care. It's in the Starfleet Scrabble dictionary. I can prove it, just give me a..."

Gilmuriel and B'elanna jumped off the floor when the console began to give off a sound that sounded like a dying buffalo. "Oh shit," said B'elanna. "This is just what we needed." She boggled at the console readings, then ran around the console flipping various switches, cursing in all the different languages she knew. Gradually, the central pillar began to move up and down and the weird noise began to die down.

"My darling wife, would you kindly tell me what in the hundred and eight Hells of Bill Gates was that?"

"I'm not totally sure," said B'elanna, "but I sure don't like it. I... The Doctor and the rest, I think we've lost them. From what the readouts said, it seemed like the whole universe just... vanished."

Fred and Link wordlessly walked down the dark hallway. There were many stained glass windows on the top of the hallway, showing figures neither of them recognized. Paintings of many styles and subjects, elegant classical sculptures and expensive vases lined the walls. But for all the time they had been walking they had never seen any doors.

"So what's going on here?" said Link. "Does this dumb hallway ever end?" He was gripping the hilt of his sword tightly.

"No," said Fred, chuckling dryly. His eyes were bloodshot and he had a forced smile on his face. "We're in Hell. We'll just wander down this hallway for ever and ever and..."

"Hey, listen!" said Link. Fred abruptly stopped his babbling and found to his surprise that he heard the sound of tropical birds coming from not far in the distance. He and Link slowly walked to the source of the sound. It was a particularly beautiful and vibrant painting showing a jungle scene. As Fred and Link looked at the painting they were filled with a sense of peace. Fred forgot all his berserker rage and Link the loneliness of endless wandering. The scene became more and more real to them, until they found they were now standing in the jungle themselves.

"So," said Link, "where do you think we are now?"

"I don't know," said Fred. "But I know that I hear wolves nearby." Indeed, through the thick trees came the plaintive howling of wolves. He prepared to run but found that Link was walking slowly towards the howling, entranced. Fred did not want to leave behind his only companion so he followed Link.

They found themselves in a clearing next to a lake. Standing beside that lake was a pack of wolves, surrounding three slim and childlike beings with large pointed ears. Link and Fred uneasily walked up to the wolfpack...
