"Well, there isn't really any alternative. None of the windows can be opened, and smashing the glass would be even more obvious than leaving through the front door. There may be other doors, but they are in areas that are off limits to me, so I haven't had a chance to reconnoitre. There aren't any fire escapes. I suspect the place is breaking all sorts of building regulations. Certainly if there was a fire those on the upper floors would have little chance."

"OK, the front door it is," said Stacy.

  1. At that moment Zimmermann walked in. "Ah, good, you're friends again!" he said. "That's nice."
  2. They left the canteen, the man behind the counter staring after them as they did so.
  3. Stacy went on: "So what about the distraction?"
