It’s a foregone conclusion, yet...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 83031

She’d like to get the scoop from a person in the know.

And Mina gives a basic rundown of what a Champion does and such:

“But there is something decidedly off about this,” Mina adds. “As I understand it Champions should not be able to be invited into the ranks just like this. Well before I came into Eternity Incorporated....”

That was the current nickname for the adventuring group of Champions currently home based out of Terra Prime, btw.

That aside, Setsuna learns that after a certain date (Terra Prime calendar wise) no new Champions shall be allowed into the ranks by the way she’d just been offered into the ranks. Something had to happen first before the prospective Champion can be asked to join the ranks.

The first Setsuna wasn’t much surprised about. Somehow the idea that those born of Champions could become ones themselves somewhat worked the same way it worked with Sailor Scouts.

The second way was what got her attention, though.

Setsuna had been about to tell how, due to some rather arcane physics relating to time flow relative to that of Terra Prime. A quick diagramming of where the Champion question got asked her by the Rules and Agents a moment ago and . . .YEP. The “event” that got the Rules and Agents interested in her (i.e. where she got dragged down into Chaos and split, for a time, into nine different Sailor Scouts) fell WELL before the moratorium on just asking . Might seem to be cheating a little bit there that the Rules and Agents did by dragging her back to her homeplane for a moment to ask the Champion Question, but then again Setsuna was (in at least one incarnation) the Sailor Scout of Time! Meaning that it was allowed!

Deal with it.

What really throws Setsuna for a loop was the part about how those who’ve fallen in love (enough) with a Champion can themselves become Champions! THAT had been a major stumbling block, the idea that as a Champion of these Rules and Agents she’d be effectively immortal while everyone else aged and eventually died around her.

People of the Silver Millenium were much longer lived than 20th century people, but did eventually succumbed to time all the same!

“So...my prince could become a Champion as well?” Setsuna said in uncharacteristically small, uncertain voice. “My children?”

“If they so choose to when asked around their 18th birthday,” Mina said simply, nodding affirmitive.

Honestly, it had already been an almost forgone conclusion just which Sailor Scout Setsuna would chose to live as from now on. While as all the OTHER Scouts she had sworn to help the reincarnated heir to the Moon Kingdom and eventually (as it would have originally turned out in the original timelines) brought about the new Moon Kingdom/Crystal Tokyo thing, there was this situation she had as being THE Sailor Moon, the Moon Princess of a still living Silver Millenium Moon Kingdom. If SHE left to go off to live forevermore in some other reality as some other Sailor Scout, then that kind of put a serious HURT on the chances of this still viable Moon Kingdom continuing. Things are kinda shaky right now after this averted collapse. Could even ruin whatever chances of those other realities she’d visited for her fellow Scouts in doing their job! If this Kingdom collapsed, then whatever needed aid wouldn’t come and THEN where would they be? Over a barrel, friends!

Let us not talk about how terribly hurt her mother . . .Queen Serenity would be if her own daughter would reject her and the Kingdom!

Let us not go into the fact that any OTHER choice than being Sailor Moon meant that she’d have to give up the relationship with “her” Prince Endymion. Now, after having loved other version of the man from afar in her other incarnations--a factor that probably played into whatever ethereal/mystical reasons that certain . . .alternative relationships that were seen in the anime and manga did not develop--she actually HAD the man’s heart and soul. Soul bonded, do you really think she’s going to give that up?! Not without enough reason and frankly there isn’t enough reasons to break off the engagement to take up duty elsewhere/when, capish?

Now, with that all, it’s just icing on the cake what Setsuna (now Sailor Moon) uses her one Rules granted wish before coming into the ranks of the Champions.

Hint: it’s the same one that one warrior princess turned queen of Aqualaria back on Terra Prime made. It’s something of a blessing that explains just why some kingdoms in the fairy tales (the fey folk kingdoms, anyway) seem to be so lasting. Everlasting in some fashion or form...

Explains why the Terra Prime coalition party (made up of a bunch of up and coming realities allied together to better promote self interests in the Military Protectorate) were able to hold on after the Great Sundering....

Oh, what’s the Great Sundering? Well, let us just say that not too soon after Rei and her sisters went missing that all contact with the majority of the more “normal” (non-Champion touched) Military Protectorate/Alliance was lost! That bit of news was a major reason why her family couldn’t track her down for so long, you see. The Sundering kind of interfered with efforts of rescue, much to the grief of some.

Fred Takahashi mentioned it to Rei and all that but unfortunately that little bit wasn’t told to the rest of the audience until now, you see.

Oops.

But I’m sure that there are a lot of other questions and concerns. Like how the other Sailor Scouts from the various realities are reacting to each other? How the “originals” are feeling about their “reincarnation” versions running about? How some are reacting to these strange people running around, helping (and putting their nose in things). How these “Champions” had been able to turn the tide despite not having been magically augmented like Sailor Senshi, women who are chosen and who were created to battle these demon/youma things?

Things like that . . .won’t be addressed here and now. Perhaps not any time soon, really. Too . . .bloody involved and pointless, really.

This was all just a recap and setup for things to come!

Yes, a set for things to come indeed.

However, a hint of what shall come. It has to do with something about a Xander, a night usually has a lot of candy and pranks involved, and a quote that flashes up upon the Gate of Time right before the replacement Senshi of Time takes over Setsuna’s old job.

The quote is from a tabletop game that came from the UK. Done by a company called the Games Workshop. Comes from a very grim/dark game with this little intro in one of it’s rulebooks:

“In the Grim Darkness of the Far Future, There is Only War”

  1. And now back to Rei and her friends!
