The Never Ending Quest - Episode 8194

"The trouble is," the Doctor went on, "that changing the past is liable to create all sorts of paradoxes. One of your authors called Robert Heinlein had a lot of fun with that in a couple of his stories, but in real life it isn't funny at all. Additionally, changing things can have some very dangerous unforeseen consequences if one isn't very careful indeed." "But surely such considerations can't amount to much when we're talking about saving a planet?" asked Betty-1, appalled at the thought that the Doctor might be willing to let Earth die. The Doctor, who had been about to refer to a famous short story by Ray Bradbury and the novel "The End of Eternity" by Isaac Asimov, said:

  1. "No, of course you're right. I sometimes make things unnecessarily hard for myself."
  2. "Well, I'm not so sure."
  3. "I...", but he didn't get any further, as the Master, who had been uncharacteristically silent, butted in to point out he was still in control.
