"Yes," replied Wu, "my bedroom is a few doors down from yours. And while I
don't have the run of the whole building, I've done a good enough job of
convincing them that I am trustworthy over the past few weeks that they've
begun to allow me considerable freedom of movement. That's how I was able
to get the electronic components for my jammer without anyone noticing."
Stacy considered this. Wu seemed very sincere, but suspicion still niggled in the back of Stacy's mind. She decided to confront it directly. "But I don't understand. Why would they bring you in to design the electronics before bringing me in to work out the theory?" "At first, they were expecting Hooker to be able to work out the theoretical stuff by himself, but apparently he wasn't up to it." She sniffed. "From what I've seen of him in my weeks here, I don't think he's much of a scientist. He's just good at fooling people into thinking he knows everything." Hmm. This all sounded fairly reasonable to Stacy. And it sounded like Wu could be a valuable ally, indeed.
