"Really?" said Stacy non-committally, looking at the petite, attractive Chinese-American woman and wondering if it was safe to trust her. "Yes. I was brought here a couple of weeks ago. Like you, they used their amnesia treatment on me, so that I'd have to co-operate if I wanted eventually to get my memory back. And they implanted one of their transponders in me too. Whilst they wanted you for the theoretical basis of the weapon, they wanted me to help design the micro-electronics that will be incorporated in it, for electronic engineering is my field of expertise. But what they don't know is that I've spent some of my time building a miniature jammer for use against their location devices. For I've decided that I'd rather risk being permanently without my memory than work on their antimatter bomb."

  1. Stacy was suspicious. Surely it would have been more logical to have kidnapped herself well before Dr Wu? Shouldn't the basic theory be verified before doing anything else?
  2. Stacy asked Wu: "So is your bedroom on this floor too? And do they let you go between floors unescorted?"
  3. Unfortunately Zimmermann had had the library bugged, and was listening to the conversation with great interest.
