Donald continued: "But if you can't find out how to reverse the effects, then we will sue. And what you just said sounded pretty much like an admission of guilt to me. So, with that clearly understood, how can we help?"

Stacy realised that she hadn't really thought this through. If Debbie had been able to remember precisely what treatment she had been given, it would have helped a lot. As things were, though, it was fair from clear how either Debbie or her brother could help. She said:

  1. "Donald, did Debbie ever tell you anything about the treatment beyond what's in that newspaper clipping?"
  2. "I'd like Debbie to come with me to the local hospital, and we'll both have our brains scanned to ensure there's no physical damage."
  3. "I think that first Debbie ought to have her eyes tested." That surprised them.
