The Grate Escape

Searching for some kind of solution, despite the relative darkness of the cell, the three adventurers feel along the supernaturally smooth walls. Nothing. No footholds. But as eyes adjust to the low light of the room, Astra points up, perhaps sixteen feet on the wall clockwise from the cell door. I dim beam of light twists through the dust and grime of the prison.

It's much too high," groans Fred, weary of his misadventures. Astra, ever resourceful and cognizant of her new-found height, grabs Velus. Hoisting him up, using the wall as a brace, she eventually extends him upon the palms of her outstretched hands.

"Bark!" says Velus, still used to his time as a canine. "Err, I mean, wow! I'm pretty sure I can wriggle through this hole!"

"What do you see, Velus?" asks Fred, but Velus' adrenaline has kicked in and he's jumped up and through the window completely within mere seconds.

Astra and Fred shout for minutes, but to no avail. An hour passes.

1. A rumble shakes the wall opposite the cell door.
2. A trencher of food slides through an opening at the bottom of the door.
3. Velus calls, a distant-sounding yell.
4. A spark, flies curlicues through the window, buzzing and clicking.
