Our heroes travel north along the barren road, heading towards the town
that appears to be less than a mile away. The flatness of the road enables
them to see all the way to the town from where they are at. If they look to
their south, the road continues on for some time, and some ways that
direction it appears the obelisks (all of them marked 'Xathiya', maybe that
is what they are called?) no longer line it. "What do you think these creepy towers are for," says Velus, prompting a wince from Fred. "What? What did I say?" Fred shakes his head, and explains. "In my experience, asking what strange objects are for seems always to prompt a none-too-pleasant illustration of said purpose in the near future. They are creepy obelisks, and I am sure when we get to this odd looking town we can get some answers." "It is odd looking," says Astra. "when I was on the hill, I looked down on it and part of it appears to be tents and the rest appears to be regular buildings. Parts of it appear to glow as well, and... have you heard that crackling noise?" "I am doing my best to ignore it" quips Fred, marching stoically onward. "Answers will be found in town. Seeking answers before we get to town will leave one of us insane or dead or kidnapped, happens every time. Not this time, though. We will march on." It was at this point that Velus felt like someone was staring at him. He was walking out in front, but he peered back at Astra and Fred and they were talking amongst themselves and paying him no mind. It was one of those feelings that you get and you just want to go light all the torches in the house. Unfortunately, there is just this dim gray light and Velus had no way of calming himself. "Sir Fred, Your Highness... " and they seemed not to pay attention "Fred! Astra!" he yelled, turning around. They stopped short, and looked quite annoyed. "What?" said Fred "What is it, Velus? We are discussing the layout of the town ahead and possible plans for once we get there." "I think my time as a dog has heightened my senses. I feel something staring at us." Velus then started looking in all directions. He began to notice that the dim light, such as it was, is getting dimmer. "Also... its getting darker outside. We should pick up the pace!" He then took off at a near-jog towards the town. "Absolute loon" said Astra, shaking her head and following at a normal pace. "I think when he got a human body again the brain didn't follow." "Agreed" said Fred, "but lets be nice to the poor boy. He is likely just in a transition per..." and then Fred noticed something pacing them about thirty feet off the left side of the path. What did Fred see?
