Was Astra a little taller than before, Velus wondered as he untied the
ropes that
fastened her to the rack. Of course, it was hard to tell, as his
perspective as
a small dog had been very different from what it was now. He would almost
swear that
her arms and legs were longer, though. Whatever the truth of that, she
seemed to be
none the worse for her ordeal, and her ability at hand-to-hand fighting
seemed
unaffected - not that all of the creatures even had hands.
Though the creatures looked frightening, they proved not to be very good fighters, and the last one was soon despatched, with our heroes almost unscratched. The spectators slunk silently away. Astra approached the others. "Thank you," she said. "You turned up just in time. And I'm glad to see that the Wizard has changed back Velus." Fred hardly took in what Astra had said. He was too astonished by her appearance. Before, she had been about the same height as himself - tall for a woman. Now she was a good six inches taller, and her arms and legs seemed disproportionately long. She saw him looking at her, and grimaced. "It was a magic rack," she said. "If you hadn't arrived when you did, I might have finished up twelve feet tall. As it is, it's not so bad."
