Now the screams of what seemed to be Astra were definitely coming from above. The Wizard did not wait to ask permission, but grabbed Fred and Velu in a levitation spell and shot straight up. Fred thanked Providence for the Wizard's help because although he could see passages and tunnels and bridges above where they were, two humans such as Fred and Velus could not have reached them by themselves.
After ten seconds the Wizard veered into a wide tunnel. The walls were covered with moss, the color of grass in the springtime. The Wizard did not bother with letting the other touch their feet to the ground, but roared down the passage. They came out in a depression set into the floor. Fred looked up. Stone platforms spiraled higher and higher around the walls of this cylindrical room. Each surface had various piece of equipment. The first three has horribly unfamilar items but the fourth had recognizable torture implements. And Astra was chained to the rack! The Wizard shouted in anger and flew up to the platform. Seconds before Fred landed he saw that the stone platforms went up and up and up, supported by nothing but where they were attached to the walls. And the fifth plaform had a crowd of spectators! He would deal with them later. For now, hideous monsters were appearing out of nowhere. No, not nowhere. The limbs and bodies of these creatures were made of metal and wire and wood and if they stood still, they looked as if they were part of the torture equipment themselves. Fred grabbed the wooden arm of the nearest nasty and spun around. The thing flailed widly and careened off the edge, falling thirty feet. It exploded quite nicely on the stone ground below. Fred looks around. Velus was ducking and dodging the metal spikes of a second monster while the Wizard was punching (punching?) out a third one. Yet more machinery monsters were approaching from all sides.
