The Never Ending Quest - Episode 7303

More machinery monsters were approaching from all sides and Fred saw that
he and his allies were sorely outnumbered. He heard a yell and wail and
looking up saw
that Nomino was limp and unconscious, in the arms of the monsters. Then
he heard a scream - it was Velus who unfortunately had the fists of a trio
of monstermen protruding from his backside, the fists having entered
through his gut. Blood and gore spew everywhere and within moments Velus
was no more.
Fred was in despair when suddenly a blinding light flooded the whole area. Was this more Dragon tricks? thought Fred. But then he heard the whelps and growls of the monstermen. A few thudded by his feet, mangled and bloodied and... dead. Whatever was in the light was killing these creatures! Whatever was in the light was a friend and savior thought Fred. And, with renewed energy, he began again to combat the monsters closest him, shielding his eyes from the light direct, but being able to do some damage where he was. Soon blood and guts, arms and legs, wood and wire lay sprawled everywhere. And then the light faded. Fred blinked, trying to adjust to the new semi-darkness. He ran to where the Wizard lay - he was still breathing, though there was a nasty gash on his forehead. He looked down on the warped corpse of Velus. He looked down at the form of Astra. She was dead, an axe lodged in her ribcage. He couldn't save her, the Wizard couldn't save her, Velus really couldn't save her, even the power of the mysterious light couldn't save her thought Fred. Life was too cruel. Within moments Fred was able to revive the Wizard, he told the mage all that had occurred. The two began a quick investigation of the place in which they found themselves. They knew that they were high within the Southern Caves, perhaps within the underside of the peaks of the Shreken. The room was high and cylindrical, they had come up from its floor from the layers of caverns below. The stone platform on which they stood was one of many, spiraling higher and lower around the walls of this place. Each platform had various piece of equipment, both familiar and horribly unfamilar, some the implements of torture. The fifth platform which had held spectators to Astra's torture was now empty. The two men knew their time was limited, the Dragon knew they were here.
