What's the Matter With Kids Today?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 72664

And then, Scott noticed fights definitely breaking out in the stand. Drinks started being thrown onto the court. Both teams were still brawling. Spectators started to filter out of the stands, and onto the court! Coach Hollinger and two medics had to hustle to get a dazed Tom Franck off the floor, and away from the riot. They ended up dragging him by his arms off the court as it filled up with spectators. The few off- duty police officers found themselves quickly overwhelmed, as they didn't seem able to break up the fight between the teams, or the many skirmishes between Baldwin and Montcalm fans that were erupting out in the stands, on the court, or even out in the hallway near concessions. The announcer desperately pleaded with everyone to get off the court so order could be restored. It was a vain effort.

Almost nobody noticed the fashionably late group of Baldwin fans slip out a side door when people began to flood the court. They went on a spree through Montcalm's hallways, kicking in locker doors, and vandalizing school books and other belongings. A few classrooms were wrecked, as a few of the gang overturned desks and broke windows. The main offices and a couple of computer labs were also targeted for destruction, as brand new, expensive computer equipment was smashed. Several of the vandals had regrouped, and were planning to break into Montcalm's in-school radio station when a group of janitors finally chased them away from the cafeteria. They were still unaware of the full-scale riot going down in the gym. They were also unaware of another ten people trashing whatever they could get their hands on upstairs.

Meanwhile, Scott was in the thick of it, completely overwhelmed by the surroundings. Members of both teams were still fighting, with Novak and Dickens still brawling near a bench, with both of their team jerseys nearly torn completely off. Almost no one could separate the two players. It was getting bad, as TV cameramen kept pushing into the melee, trying to record all of the chaos. Finally, one cameraman went down, giving some local viewers an astonishing look at a swarm of angered teenagers grabbing at the camera, fully intending to smash it. Scott slowly began to push his way past groups of people either fighting, or trying to keep other people apart. The air was filled with obscenities and yelling. The announcer was almost drowned out. Drinks and other assorted objects were being thrown from the few remaining in the stands.

And all Scott wanted to do was get out of there.

Out of the corner of his eye, Scott noticed a fight between cheerleaders. Most of the Baldwin cheerleading squad had managed to escape into the locker rooms, but a few weren't so quick before being cut off by people either fighting, pulling people apart, or just trying to get out of the way. Some of the Montcalm cheerleaders who were still in the gym opted to confront the rival school's cheerleaders, blaming them for vandalizing Nicole Lloyd's car.

Scott couldn't stand there and watch. He had to get out of there somehow, before one person decided to pick a fight with him. He had already had people shoved into him more times than he could care to count, and he stopped counting all of the wild punches that were hitting him instead of their intended targets. A cup of ice came down from the stands, narrowly missing Scott's face. Two kids were now hanging on one of the basketball hoops, clearly intending to damage it by bouncing up and down.

Then, Scott came face to face with the one thing that finally pushed him past the breaking point.
