"Er, wouldn't that be a little drastic?" Velus said. Having only just regained his human - and full-sized - form, he had no wish to jeopardise it. "After all, once we'd escaped, it might be a very long time before we found a wizard who could restore us to our full size again."

"Anything is better than being a prisoner of the Dragon," Astra said. "Anyway, with luck we may find a spell that will wear off after a limited time. There are so many books, that searching them may take quite some time, though... Ah, this looks hopeful."

She pulled out a thick tome that had 1,001 Spells for All Occasions embossed in gold leaf on its spine. The words were in the common tongue, so judging by that she should be able to read the contents.

  1. She began leafing through the book.
  2. But the Dragon had taken the precaution of placing magical wards on his books, so that if anyone but himself touched one of them appropriate protective measures would be taken.
  3. "Ah, there you both are," came a voice from the doorway. It was Elanda. "You're very naughty coming in here. I've been looking all over for you. We need someone to clean the latrine, and as newest recruit Astra gets that job."
