Pardon us for dropping in unexpectedly....

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 68263

Rei

"Actually there are ssseveral . . . .possible options," the G-Man says after glancing at our map. "Each with it's own set offf. . .banes and beneffitsss."

Gads, could they have spent a little bit more effort into making this host body for the G-Man? Either they should have worked more on making it easier for him to speak without that speech impediment, or they should have spent money on speech lessons after he got implanted into that body his mind dwells within right now!

Sigh, well nothing for it right now and to suggest him doing the later would not only be pointless, it would be tacky.

At least I was able to sway the others with my reasoning, both the pragmatic and those with . .. emotional investments in one particular blue haired (and red eyed) native girl. Honestly, I had been tempted (if only briefly) in stepping in

As it turns out there are several gateways even just in walking distance from where we are hiding right now with short wait times. However, being that we had already said we wished to stay OUT as much as possible from the lives of THIS world’s version of NERV (the Pilots of the Evangelion Units especially). Superimposing a map over the grid coordinates that the G-Man provides, bolstered with an online phone directory that Dr. Akagi uses (had to hack the system for some of the unlisted numbers like for the residence of Director Gendo Akari), it turns out that pretty much of what is available immediately . . . isn’t so very attractive right now for various reasons.

The one we finally decide upon also has some . . . . possible, disagreeable things about it. Namely, according to what we know of Neon Genesis Angels, the body of the native Kaworu Nagisa shouldn't be too . . .animated. Point in fact, his active S2 organ should have incinerated the body. It will be disturbing to view the burnt corpse of the human form Angel, but as they say: "Dead men tell no tales."

That is of course, barring . . .

NO, I am not going to even say it. Avoid the curse.

Whatever the case, we do NOT need to draw more attention than we have to here! All the other nearby portals (or whatever you’d care to call them) are too “public” for my taste. Almost as if God has a sense of sick humor in it, really. Seriously, putting all the nearby portals in the domiciles of the key players of NERV...

Later

Tabris

Hm. Not sure how to exactly feel about this. On one hand this is the best of bad options. Nearby portals are located inside places for people we rather would wish to avoid except for this one, in theory. However, also in theory this one is presently unoccupied. Unoccupied by anyone living, I should say.

In theory there is a corpse of a humanform Angel (ala Neon Genesis) with my face on it. A corpse who called himself by the name I have. I have to be perfectly honest I’m not exactly looking forward to see what is except for a quirk of fate and different decisions made ME. Mind you, I am not a stranger to death and bloodshed. Long time served within the Military guaranteed that. But this is . . .different.

In a sense this is MY dead body we're going to be seeing here soon enough. That does not sit well with me at all.

Oh, it MIGHT be that this Kaworu Nagisa was not (and never had been) the "Angel of Free Will". He might have just been a normal human ( which according to hacked medical records who just happens to have ivory white skin, red eyes, and silver/gray hair). Not too out of the realm of possibility, considering that in some Neon Genesis stories/games/series they have Rei Ayanami as being a distant relative of Yui Akari (i.e. an ordinary human and not a human/Angel hybrid). It is just that some inner feeling that Rei has here tells HER that the native is . . . was an Angel who called himself Tabris.

Usually a hunch alone isn’t something to base policy on, but in this case (where one deals on a regular basis with magery and personifications of forces of nature), I’d believe we’d better listen. Besides, being that it would be so much EASIER in a way (for me anyway) for the native Nagisa being a normal human being I rather doubt it shall anything but what I . . . . have a dismayed feeling about myself.

Soon enough, we arrive (in disguise) at the apartment complex where the native was living. Being that the place did not burn DOWN is a plus I guess. When an Angel seems to die here they have an unfortunate tendency to combust. Lucky indeed that a few fires back at NERV didn’t get out of hand, eh?

What I mean is that we don’t have to deal with the Fire Department and Police in addition to everything else. Whatever "spontaneous combustion" my analog's body must have done it appears to have been very limited, as the entire building failed to burn to the ground...

Climbing the stairs and (after making sure no neighbors are watching) we slip quickly into the native Nagisa's apartment.

Hm, odd. Something in the air here. It's owner has similar tastes to my own as I remember them back then, but there is just something a bit more . . . to it. Dare I say it? More . . . .feminine? Decidedly so?

. . .

Something tells me that if that's true then . . .never mind. I may not be the poster child for "red blooded all male he-men" but then again I AM in the hetero-sexual camp. It is just . . . Not like I am "homophobic" but I DO rather object to people who seem to stoop to acting like stereotypes. 'Tis their own business, but it just grates on the nerves all the same.

I never want to see that old series "Will and Grace" again especially because of that one particular wispy little....

Hrmph. Anyway.

As for the apartment itself, the layout of this place looks to be exactly as what SEELE had lined up for me in my briefings about Tokyo-3. Even after all these years I STILL remember such things (photographic memory being what it is). However, I feel something in the air myself now and I do NOT mean the decore of the room!

There is something different here, and I do NOT mean that it's different from back "home".

Then a flash of white, holy light and a heavenly chord from another room and. . .

"Oooh," a soft, feminine voice groans from the bedroom and out stumbles . . . .some young woman who looks LIKE me (albeit done up in a female form). She grabs hold of a chair and sets herself down before she collapse and then slowly realizes she has company.

Red orbs look up and focus upon us all, turning a bit angry (and surprised) at the trespass. Then she looks more towards me and she is agape.

"Doppleganger," I whisper almost mindlessly to myself, feeling a feeling of kinship that I'd heard so much of from the others but never experienced. Until now.

  1. "Uh . . . Kaworu Nagisa I presume?" Dr. Akagi blinks.
