"The Anomaly"

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 68330

"Uh . . . Kaworu Nagisa I presume?" Dr. Akagi blinks.

"Yes . . .what is going on here?" the female Kaworu blinks, not at all sure now what to make of this situation.

She had gone to bed last night, sure that something important would soon happen. After all, she had . . . bent the mandate she worked under and came to Earth earlier than what she should have and so things had altered to something different than . . . a feeling said they should be. Not something BAD, mind you. Just . . . different. She visited some of the "fated" key players of what some would call the "Dead Sea Scroll" prophecies early on, that was all. Because of it, they still were fulfilling their destined positions, just in a much more . . . positive setting than what it could have been! Hey, she's the Angel of Free Will, correct? She just opted in exercising her free will

Surprisingly enough some of her classmates had been most persuasive, actually. At first she’d been nothing but scornful about the idea that her classmate, then just Gendo "Rokubungi", could possibly believe that HE could save the world from the coming Angels. But in the course of things the (then) young man had said enough to convince her otherwise and she had left (enough) of the conversation intact in the young man’s mind to see what would come of it. She’d gone into hiding after erasing memories of her presence from the others and waited, curious at what would come of all of it.

Actually a LOT of things came of it, truth be told. Just not a lot of it would become clear until well after the fact, so hidden some of it had been from the public (and her) eye.

Still, something in the pit of her stomach had told her that since that day but it seemed to become clear when something had NOT happened on one particular fair day in September of 2000. That particular day she had penciled to make her reappearance as an infant "created" by a shadowy "social club" that one Yui Akari’s (Yui being another classmate from earlier) father belonged to: SEELE. However, instead of a massive explosion caused in retaliation by the Angel known as Adam, done because of an ill advised "poke" by curious scientist she came into a world where . . . apparently nothing such as that had happened!

The Prophecy, as it turned out, was still in effect but on a much more positive track than what her feeling told her they could be here. Through various means she found that at least one key faction (SEELE) had gone and done something ill advised, eliminating themselves by getting themselves "disappeared" after going into the dig sight and attempting to communicate with the unearthed Angel known as Adam instead of running tests on it. Why exactly Adam made them vanish remained unknown to Nagisa, but it meant that no longer would SEELE's dark manipulations be in the works. Also, because and despite SEELE being out of the picture, pulling the strings, Project E was in the works . . . and years AHEAD of schedule to boot!

Things were . . . different. Less dark. Up to and including NERV not really needing to be so desperately rushed as "shortcuts" being needed to bring the Evangelions online.

Things that have already been touched by the Champions and their companions so far.

So again instead of waiting until Shinji was a teenager, she opted on contacting and befriending Shinji Akari as a child (after making her mortal shell over into a young girl the same age as the four year old). The dynamics of their relationship was . . . a bit different than what they would/could have been in the anime. The subject matter of which we shall not touch right now (not being pertinent to the matter at hand).

On the eve of what she knew should be something very important, she had gone to bed and right before going to sleep had glimpsed a young, blue haired girl (approximately around four years old). She had a ghostly quality to her and THAT is where all hell broke loose. Not saying that she's having flashbacks of prior lives or anything like that. What happened in her past incarnations (as a male Angel of Free Will, ala Neon Genesis Evangelion). Definitely nothing of the one particular prior incarnation where she had come to a rather abrupt end at the hands of a rather distraught male elf named Elrondir (re: 61675).

No, that's in the distant past and after today things (her world and her very being) shall never be quiet the same again. Because of the fact this world (and it's solar system) is no longer where it had resided for so long, for one. That was when her world got transported into this new reality and the physics got changed. THAT was when the sheer waves of agony had hit her, radiating from the area where her S2 organ was located. It seemed to go on forever but in truth the agony lasted only briefly. She hadn't been incinerated due to a Chaos energy event given off by Rei I (due to astral projection visit to Nagisa while the young girl slept, of all things)! Instead, something ELSE happened.

Most of what happened then was a blur. However, she did remember that for the most part the rest of the night had been spent with a very unresponsive figure sitting before her. Finally, after consulting something on the computer (Nagisa couldn't see it because she'd been rooted to the spot where she found herself standing) and had passed down a verdict in a cold, emotionless voice that sent chills down her spine.

She couldn't remember what the thing (which looked human but sure as heck didn't FEEL human) had said. Something about since she having unexpectedly survived her transition from Angel into human being he was, due to her belonging to him and his office (!) converting her here and now into a full fledge Champion, albeit something called a "First Generation" Champion.

She'd been full of questions (which fell mostly upon deaf ears) but this "Rule" had stated that any and all questions would be first addressed by another set of Champion (who and what they were she should be able to deduce on her own) and then by an "Enlightened" Rule. That particular declaration had been delivered in an emotionless monotone throughout. However, despite that lack of inflection in the voice, Nagisa swore she heard a trace of annoyance (perhaps even anger) in the last part.

Then with only a Heavenly choir to forewarn her of what was to come she found herself practically thrown back into reality. Back to the real world and with a massive headache and slightly panicked to find that she had missed school!

In that kind of mind frame, she’d been most annoyed to find trespassers in her apartment until she got a REAL good look at them. THEN . . . she knew that something was more than a bit amiss. The one young man who looks like he could be her long lost brother REALLY is throwing her for a loop (especially the blossoming feelings towards him).

Let us not go into her noticing that she no longer can feel any access to her Angellic powers is affecting her state of mind right now, shall we?

"Wasn’t a dream," she whispers to herself softly. Dreams are rare for her kind (er. . . .former kind) but last night had been too strange in her mind to have been anything but a dream. Now? Not so sure of that.

Shaking herself out of her daze, she addresses Dr. Akagi. Of all the people there at least Akagi should know who she was!!

"Of course I am Doctor," Nagisa blinks, looking at the fauxe blonde oddly. Then glancing at the others (lingering on Tabris) she looks over at the three young women of the group. Of the lot, there is perhaps something that seems . . . slightly off about them. The man in the western business suit is . . . .creepy in his own way but the young teens . . . there is something off about them that she cannot put her finger upon and THAT draws her attention.

Each looks oddly alike (albeit one is slightly older) like they're from the same mother, but that's not the thing here. Each is dressed in the same kind of school uniform (rather similar to the school uniform she wears for school truth be told), but that's not the problem. And for some reason each of the girls seems to insist on wearing backpacks (not exactly considered "proper" wear for girls by current fashion), but THAT is not the issue.

Note: The backpacks and school uniforms are the Quatermain sister’s magically disguised wings and actual school uniforms (magically altered a bit to fit the fact of wings and in Rei’s case a slightly older body). The uniforms were some of the only non-Nerv clothing that Reika had and in the course of things got packed away with the other gear.)

There is just an air about them...

"But who are these people?" Nagisa finally manages without sputtering. "Are . . .did by any chance do they belong to some kind of . .. organization which they call themselves champions for some reason?"

Meanwhile, back at NERV (ala Reika’s)…

A flock of terrorized pigeons takes flight, chased by young, screaming figures of red and blue hair.

  1. "Birdy! Birdy! Birdy!!" screams little Asuka, delighted at the fun she and her newest friend are having with the unfortunate avians who made their home down in the Geofront.
