The Never Ending Quest - Episode 68113

Dr. Ritsuko Akagi

"Especially the lives of the local versions of the First Child, Second Child and Third!" out young team leader says, directing the answer more toward the G-Man than anyone else in my group here. "It would be not only counterproductive in the end to our Quest, but most likely needlessly harmful to them in the end!"

Once again, I must admit that this older version of the First Child that I've come to know (up until recently) . . . continues to impress me. Now, I have to admit that I have been informed of the "events" that had so transformed her personality into . . . this. From a young woman who had trouble with "living" (i.e. interacting with others in a normal fashion) to a VERY engaging young woman! A woman who carries herself at times like someone much older than what her physical age would suggest. Then again, go figure! The woman here got force fed Yui Akari's entire life in the matter of seconds (well, her version of the woman). Honestly, that alone should have driven a normal person insane but besides only a temporary bout of delusion (she'd believed that she had been Unit 01 for a bit there), here she is now. Whole. Very lucid and . . . .

This isn't the same Rei Ayanami that I had thought I'd known for so long now. This young woman I would . . . .gladly follow. Granted, this is only an analog OF the my version of the First Child, but still! And there had always been that potential in my Rei (now Reika), but while she's developed into a whole, complete person I cannot say that she would be ready for this particular job yet. Rei, however, with HER this one's potential has blossomed fully in her abilities to lead!

I mean after that little display she does in laying things out for her decision that I would follow this woman . . . No! No. I was going to say follow her to the gates of hell but after that debacle with Gendo Akari I fear that I'm going to have to be a bit leary of anyone in the seat of leadership. Cannot bring myself to trust blindly after that mess, thank you.

However, I will just leave off and say that I feel much BETTER now about Rei being the head of this little adventurer party. She might have not wanted it, but it got thrust upon her due to the wrangling that went on between these Champions and the G-Man. Both needed what the other wanted but didn't really trust the other too terribly much and in the way of things falling out Rei, still very much a teenage woman who got herself "volunteered" as party leader.

Nice to know that she's up to it.

Lilith

So...basically we are not going to go out and help our newest . . .er. . . ."sister" with any of her problems. At first (in my heart of hearts) I was . . . well . . .

After so long just existing, letting the world go on around me while I called myself "Rei Ayanami" I find myself wanting to live life to the fullest! And I want each and every "other" Rei Ayanami out there to be able to live life to their fullest as well. I feel that emotion burning in the hearts of my sisters and I know I want to help them realize that goal, you see. As corny as that may sound, that's what I want to do.

Realistically, there is no way we could do that. And in this case the best course of action is to let the situation with this particular Rei Ayanami lay. There isn't any evil conspiracy to start Third Impact with her as the centerpiece. Oh, since there was that doppleganger reaction between my sisters and the native Rei Ayanami (too many analogs running about these days. . . .sheese) and that quick perusal that Dr. Akagi did of NERV files suggests that her origins are rather like mine and my sisters (i.e. the native is a modified clone of a human with spliced Angel DNA), I feel that the "Third Impact" (or technically "Second Impact)/Instrumentality gambit would be only the option of last resort on this world.

We go charging in and revealing things that we suspect to her and the world wouldn't go down too well. Would probably even crush the native Rei Ayanami, actually.

From what we'd been told by my son-in-law and confirmed through other sources an excitable extrovert who may be a bit lacking on social norms, but hardly in need of direct intervention like I and my sisters needed so very much. In fact, I only see her being hurt to learn that she comes from a test tube instead of a mother's womb like everyone else.

Besides, we really don't have much in the way of resources to do such a thing, anyway. Heck, even my new family really could ill afford to have intervened the way they had to with Reika: two members down for the count, locked in a coma for the next few weeks or whatnot!

. . .

Well, actually they done it more to prevent Tokyo-3 from glowing in the dark AND to prevent SEELE's merry men from interfering with our business but getting involved in Reika's life had ate up a lot of time, cutting DOWN options in the process to where only that last desperate gambit had to be used.

What I'm saying that she does a fantastic job laying that all out for us: those with emotional attachments and the more pragmatic minded ones of the group. She could have just not even bothered with it. Could have just ordered us around with no explanations or input because of that Contract but she IS a much better person and leader than the "Supreme Commander Gendo Ikari" ever was! Gendo (mine and the others) just ordered and intimidated others into following his orders.

Besides, she has a point. This world isn't in danger. NERV isn't in danger of destruction, her staff to be executed in cold blood. Heck, NERV and her staff will find themselves even vindicated after the initial cries of hoax goes out in the backroom dealer who funded NERV in the first place when strange giant sized corpses are found hither and yon all over this world. That's something we dig up later while we're hiding away awaiting the next gateway to make itself available, but that's for later.

No, the best policy here is to lay low now. Intervening needlessly would only bog us down to a point our Quest would surely be in risk of failing.

  1. But where exactly? And where exactly is the G-Man going to say that the gateway entrance lay?
