Some unknown time later Fred regained consciousness. She opened her eyes
to find herself slumped on a chair in a cabin that had no obvious
distinguishing features and so could have been anywhere on the ship.
Standing in front of her she recognised Lt Connors, the woman who now
claimed to be the ship's commanding officer. [19282-3] On either side of
Connors stood a female member of security, each with a phaser pointed at
Fred.
"So Uhura, you've come round," Connors said. "What were you doing in that part of the ship? And where are your fellow conspirators?" Fred's spirits rose. It seemed that none of the others had yet been captured. Her spirits rose even further when Connors added: "What do you know about the warp engines being offline?" It seemed that Scotty had succeeded in his mission. Even if the impulse engines were still operational, it would take months if not years for the Enterprise to get to whatever destination the rebels (or rather their parasites) had in mind. "Nothing," Fred lied. "I don't believe you."
