Exotica Tells Fred a Secret

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 6599

After a while, Exotica turned to Fred and said: "I suppose I was a bit mean to you just now. If you promise to say nothing to my father, I'll tell you where I learnt that sort of language." Fred naturally agreed; he was curious to know where Exotica had learnt to talk like that.

"Life could get pretty boring in the palace for a teenage girl, especially when she was heir to the throne" said Exotica. "When I was about seventeen or so, I persuaded one of the servant girls to sell me some of her clothes. Disguised as a peasant girl, I used to sneak out of the palace when I was supposed to have gone to bed. I would go to one of the local inns, buy myself a pint of ale, and sit in the corner and listen to the talk. The stories some of those drinkers told! That's where I learnt my bad language. Of course, as a pretty girl I got into a few scrapes, but it taught me how to look after myself and to handle a dagger." Fred thought that she had been lucky to get away unscathed, but thought it unwise to say so. In an inn, there would normally be someone to come to the aid of a young girl if it looked like she was being harrassed, but the dark alleys outside would have been much more dangerous.

Fred's thoughts turned to Velus. He and Exotica had somehow got separated from the teen-dog some hours before. The caverns seemed to be such a maze that he could be anywhere by now. As chance would have it, not five minutes later:

  1. They saw Velus coming towards them.
  2. They saw a naked teenage boy heading towards them. The boy blushed when he saw Exotica, then said: "It's me, Velus! I've had quite an adventure."
