The Temple of the Dawn

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 65262

While not as forbidding as the black tower, the temple was an imposing building in its own right, the sun glittering off of its large dome and spires. The party made their way through the abandoned streets, not daring to go into any of the shops or residences. They reached the temple doors and threw them open.

Inside, the stench of decay that permeated the rest of the city was nonexistant. The architecture was unlike any Allarian temple Fred had ever been in. The high columns, archways, and the massive domed interior almost gave the impression of being outside. There were holes in the roof of the dome that let the sunlight in. What was most amazing was the color. Everything was bright white, carved of marble or other white stones. It had not appeared that way from the outside. There were lush indoor gardens, in full bloom despite being apparently untended. An ingenious acqueduct system for bringing water (from where?) into the building seemed to keep the gardens alive. Diana tasted the water from where it ran down towards the gardens and determined it was clean and safe to drink.

"This looks almost like ancient Hespaniard architecture...I mean, like from hundreds, maybe thousands of years ago." Imelda commeneted. "There are ruins in the north of Hespan that have a similar style. None of our historians ever figured out what they were for, or who built them. There was speculation that whoever built them was once a great civilzation which spread across the continent."

While the group was contemplating this, resting by the water, and looking about, Exotica's eyes fluttered open. Fred was at her side instantly, with Diana behind. "Princess, are you alright?"

Exotica looked upwards, towards the high ceiling. "Yes, Fred, I'm fine. Thank you for bringing me to this place. Now I can begin the cleansing."

She seemed somehow different, Fred thought. Not herself. Perhaps in a trance of some sort? He tried to meet her gaze, but she seemed not to be looking at him, seeming to look right through him instead. It was eerie and discomforting.

She got to her feet lightly and easily, and began walking towards the center of the temple, where a particularly bright light shone down. Fred realized absently that there were mirrors or reflective surfaces througout the temple that were catching the sunlight and directing it towards the center. He was rather more focused on the princess, bathed in white sunlight, a calm, almost ethereal beauty...

  1. Exotica begins the ritual.
  2. "Fred, this isn't right. Can't you feel it? We have to stop her!" Diana says.
