"All right," the orc who seemed to be the leader said to Astra. "Here's da
deal. We lets yer out and gives yer
a head start - say till dat candle dere has burnt out. Den we comes after
yer. If we
catches yer before da Dragon do, den we have yer for lunch. Sound fair?"
Since if she
refused to co-operate, it seemed they would have her for lunch
immediately, Astra
hurriedly nodded her head. It wasn't much of a game, but it was the only
one in town.
"Take yer armour off den, and yer boots, before we lets yer go," said the orc. Astra sighed. It had been too much to hope that they might allow her to keep her armour. They had already taken away her sword and shield, of course. She was glad to find that she was wearing some underwear beneath her armour, thoughtfully provided by the dragon to prevent chafing. They let her out of the cage, and she ran off down the only exit tunnel from the room. She hoped that they would play fair. If they did then she should have about thirty minutes start. She wondered what had happened to Velus and the parrot. Had they perished in the ambush?
