In Prison (again)

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 6407

Things looked bleak for the princess from Aqualaria (again). Not only had she been captured, imprisoned and used by the Dragon of the Northern Caves, she had also been given her freedom by the monster, not out of kindness but out of sport: "I grow bored," the dragon had told her. "You have been a failure as a lure. No brave knight has succeeded in finding you. Therefore I have decided to do something else with you, I'll let you go and amuse myself by seeing whether you can find your way out of the caverns." [#4094]

She had found herself in the finest set of armor she had ever seen, a perfect fit no less, and complimented by a sword and shield of a make unlike any she'd ever seen. On her back was a pack with enough provisions and supplies to last a month at least. She had even thought that such provisions could only mean that the way out would only be that much more difficult. [#4100] How right she had been.

And then she had met that dog; that dog who yipped and yapped but with intelligence behind its eyes, and intent behind its noise. Through a system of 'yes' and 'no' barks Astra quickly set up, she learnt that this dog was actually a kidnapped teenager by the name of Velus who had lived on a farm not far from the entrance to the caverns. Apparently the dragon sometimes changed the people it kidnapped into animals! She supposed that she herself could be considered fortunate not to have met that fate. [#4106] Then that same dog/boy explained (in that system of yips, yaps, barks and ruffs) that there was a human-turned-animal community living in the Northen Caves. [#4107] Velus led Astra to the main compound, the main cave within the system of caves but only found that the Dragon had already taken everyone away to work as slaves in its mines far below (everyone except for the Mayor-turned-parrot). [#4115] With that in mind the warrior-princess from the land of warrior-princesses decided it would be easier to search out and kill the Dragon than to rescue the imprisoned and transformed humans or even to flee. The threesome had only just begun to delve deeper into the underground terrain when they were startled by an orc! [#4135]

Though Astra of Aqualaria gave good fight, she was finally bested by a bonk on the brain coming from behind! When she awoke, she found herself in a cage made of timbers that probably were culled from Nearway Forest (the forest that was right at the base of the Northern Mountains). There were three orcs in the lighted room, as well as one troll, two pixies and a firefly. She didn't see any dogs or parrots.

"Should we chop her up or dice her?" asked the troll. "You already asked dat Timberbutt," retorted one of the orcs. "We's are gonna roast her over an open fire."

"But sheee, sheeee, sheeeee ain't no chestnut!" squealed a pixie. "Chestnuts taste gooooood!" squealed the other pixie.

"Shaddup!" commanded another orc. "We's all know da rules. We's can't eat her until da Dragon gives da say-so. Put anoder log on da fire, RugRat, it's getting too cold in here."

It was the firefly who then flittering towards a stack of logs and with two of its insect arms grabbed and hefted a huge timber and gently put it in a fireplace that was on the far side of the cavernroom.

"But, but, but," squealed the pixies together. "But Mister-Boss-Man- Dragon don't even know that we have this walky-talky banquet!!! How's he supposed to give 'da say-so'?"

"Shaddup," growled the third orc. "Alls you do is dink of food. We's dink of more dan food and my head hurts from all dis dinking! HE let her go, HE can find her. If He don't den we'll eat her all up."

"You mean," said Timberbutt in his slow deep voice. "You mean we're gonna play hide-and-go-seek with this girl?"

The three orcs lifted their heads and smiled their toothy, rough smile. "Yeah," they said in unison. "Dat's exactly what we're gonna do!"
