There it was for all the world to see: prints that were too large, too
heavy, and with too many toes to be human. Captain Holm Locke couldn't
beleive his eyes: they were orcish prints!!!
"By the silent gods of yesterhill!" he cried out. "These creatures haven't trespassed since the time of the...since the time of...since before a dragon burned our fields!" And so it was. The last engagement with orcs had been long before the current day, along time ago in the past, about three hundred years back. Yet could the Captain be sure they were orcish prints? He had seen them before, of course, in the Royal TreasureHouse, when he was first made a Captain's aide. A set of orc feet had been kept within a glass jar, kept as a prize from those days long ago. But could he be certain that this was real? a true observation? or a trick of his eyes and imagination? But he didn't know of any other monster that had footprints like this. The only other logical answer was that a *new* creature, a new monster might be about. But from where did it come? Why did it choose to attack poor, poor Nathanial? The shock of seeing non-human prints was too much for the Captain, he needed some sign that what he imagined was real. The only way he could get that, he realized, was to go to the Royal TreasureHouse.
