Hot Lips

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Fred the Red Dragon was going to take a deep breath, crack his mouth open in an open grimace, and fire a sword-like gush of flame across the other dragon's neck.

It did not work out that way.

The form of the flame was a small fireball in front of Fred's head that made a high-pitched and silly "pop" sound before dissipating. Fred yelped in pain as the fire flashed across his lips. Little more was injured than his pride, though, as the fireball lasted for less than a second.

Finally, Lord Fred figured out that if he used his tail to push against the wall, he could skid forward into the other dragon's hoard and then get some traction by walking on the coins and assorted treasure.

The other dragon thought, "Bright boy is finally going to launch an attack. If he does not trip over his own shadow."

It was time to use a little bit of magic. (It would not be enough to kill Fred. Death was not due to visit him today, although the other dragon did not know that.)

When the dragon finished with his magic....

1. Fred did indeed trip over his own shadow.
2. Fred was now a man again. The dragon generously provided him one fig leaf for clothing. No weapons, though.
