Red dragons aren't really magic users, but like all dragons regardless of
type they can manipulate any magical energy they come across to a limited
extent. In this case, it was discharges of magic energy curtesy of Belboz'
spellcasting. This particular dragon liked making their opponent's shadow come alive. This shadow-dragon was mischievous to start with, but usually got vicious pretty quickly. More to the point, they could - and some had - kill their shadowcaster. What was worse is that there was no defence for such a creature. Totally oblivious to this, Fred tried to execute his plan of using his tail to propel him towards the treasure. It started off well, until an unexpected obstacle sent him sprawling. He ended up by the treasure alright, but not quite in the manner he planned. He scrabbled to get to his feet, but his claws couldn't get any purchase on the polished floor. Hearing manic laughter behind him, he turned his head around as best he could and got the shock of his life to see a completely black version of himself. Realisation dawned that this strange creature had caused him to trip up, yet he hadn't cottoned on to the fact that it was his own shadow.
