'He who hesitates is lost' as the saying goes. And it's something the
dragon, or rather the dragon spirit had managed to prove time and again.
His opponents always expect to encounter a dragon who is ready to fight,
so he tries to appear harmless. A moment's hesitation is all he needs to
get in a potentially fatal strike. But Fred had a single purpose in mind.
It wasn't time for talking, it was time for fighting! He rushed into the
attack. Cursing, the dragon managed to get out of the way. So he's one of those is he? Time for plan 'B'. Plan 'B' involved merely defending himself against his opponent's attacks. Hopefully his opponent will wear himself out, and again leave himself open. In his experience, if his opponent realised that he wasn't going to fight back, they either increased their attacks or try to rile him with insults. He's heard some really inventive ones in his time. Alternatively, they would realise what he was trying to do and back off to reanalyse the situation.
