Prophecies and interpretations...(Part 1)

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 62585

Rei II

I blink a bit as I see that some of the people in the room jump a bit from one place to another. Meaning that the Rule here had frozen me in time so as to have a private conversation between either Lilith or my sister here. Perhaps both, for all I know right now.

Whatever the case, it seems that I at least have just been tapped for something and whatever it will do next here. Let us see.

Glancing around a bit before I go over to the awaiting Rule and sister, I see that I'm pretty much right. Nobody else is moving. G-man is still frozen in a look of great concern. The bastard known as Gendo Akari is frozen, a look of dread fixed upon his face as he seems to be staring at the giant red cross that Lilith had been nailed to up until now. Hm, I wonder why he's clutching his right hand close to himself. Did he get injured in his mad quest to bring about Instrumentality through Lilith? AWW, it breaks my heart (note sarcasm in voice). Then there is that figure I see over out in the LCL lake beneath Lilith's cross . . . .which is NONE other than Dr. Akaji herself! She's . . . dead? Shot by the looks of it.

So, in the end Gendo used you up and destroyed you when you no longer were of use to him, eh? Sigh, I did not like "my" version of you, Dr. Akaji, but I cannot say that I hated you enough to feel that you warranted THIS!

Sigh, I guess that if things hadn't been so hectic here up until the Rule showed up I would have noticed the corpse before now. I hope that little sister doesn't spot it, though. She's . . .had enough shock for a while, shall we say. Then again, as an Eva pilot one gets to grow . . . desensitized to certain things. Death is a part of life. We pilots fought for the sake of humanity's continued existence, but it is a fact that death comes. We did try to minimize it while fighting Angels in the streets, but still!!

. . .

Well, let us go see what the Rule wants, eh?

I glance over at Lilith, who herself is frozen and pause in slight surprise. Besides a look of pleasant surprise (and a bit of anticipation) upon her frozen features, I detect. . . .

"So . . . you actually did offer her Championship and she accepted?" I ask, blinking and gesturing at the figure I know now is a Champion by the feel of it.

"Yes," the Rule said simply. "She took it all in rather well and opted on joining up. All in all a nice turn of events, I shall have to say!"

Yes indeed, being the new Office in having Champions it meant that we all were rather short handed when it came to Champions compared to the Others. If I guess correctly then the same means that the Rules and Agents had brought me into the fold (my brief time as an NGE Angel), something similar had happened here with Lilith?

Glancing at my now red haired (and red winged) sister, I might add that it also may apply to Rei III here, with her contact with Lilith and all that.

As it turns out, I am right. For a brief second or two her contact with Lilith (getting sucked into it) had transformed her briefly first back into her old human/NGE Angel hybrid . . . and then fully into full blooded NGE Angel.

Somehow, I believe if not for the intervention of the G-man over there by freezing time I would have found not only Lilith burned to a crisp, but Rei III as well. One more thing I must ask my Rule here about when I can conveniently broach the subject!

If the answer is yes, then I do believe that I will perhaps "owe a BIG one" to that fellow!

We'll see. We'll see, depending upon his motives what I owe him (if anything).

Now, as it turns out I had been brought in to act as a character witness at first for his good intentions towards Rei III (you must admit that this Champion business can be a bit hard to believe at first). Then, I act as a source of information. She's already just got told what a Rule (and Agent) is. And after the Celestrial revealed himself to her more fully....

NO, the Rule did not just Flash her, you PERV!

I mean that some invisible cloak that he somehow used to appear more normal had been dropped just a bit to where, for want of a better term, vibes given off by him give credence to his claims. It's hard to describe to those who've never been in the presence of a Celestrial . . . .they have an aura that makes you believe almost everything they say, in some ways. As for a Rule or Agent, they have an aura of raw power that makes one believe (correctly) that they can just snap their fingers and make even the most silly thing stated true. And the fact of the matter is that being able to question their motives and what they say after They had left you is proof enough to tell you that they had NOT tinkered with your mind, to twist you into being a puppet.

Puppets and dolls do not question orders or statements, EVER. Trust me on this.

Ah, I'm failing to convey exactly what I mean. Let us just say that my sister believes what she'd just been told (and for good reason). Leave it at that, okay?

But that all said, little sister has a few questions for me personally. Some of which I'd been holding off on answering up until now, for various reasons. Some because too much too soon would be too bad for my sister's well being. Some being . . . I'm a bit hesitant in tackling it blindly. Best that she asks me than I just lay it all on her, you know.

Excusing ourselves for a moment for at least a semblance of privacy (no place is far enough and private enough against a Rule or Agent who wishes to listen in), I and she actually fly UP a bit to an overhead catwalk for this chitchat.

As we settle, I have to smile a bit at the slightly glazed look of ecstasy that little sister has upon her face. I do remember the rush it had been (almost better than se. . .hurmph, some things I could name) when I had first taken flight with my wings.

"That felt sooo good," she coos, then shaking her head a bit to clear it and bring herself back to the here and now, only absentmindedly stroking a wing feather or three as she looks at me oddly.

"So . . . . in your reality you didn't bring about Instrumentatlity?" she asks, tilting her head slightly. "Not Commander Ikari's version I understand, but why not any version of it? Why doom your race that way?"

"I didn't doom them," I say softly. "I did bring about vast, almost world shattering change AND did it in fulfillment of the Seele Dead Sea Scrolls . . . just not in the manner as predicted, that's all. Matter of interpretation, you see."

  1. There is ALWAYS room for interpretation for things like that, you know!
