It was a surprise to see a large building, which from its appearance Fred
took to be a temple, in what had seemed until now to be a deserted region.
Deserted as far as other humans were concerned, at least, and Fred was
pretty sure that elves did not construct great edifices made of stone, as
this one was.
Such a major structure must surely have a permanent staff to look after it. That meant that they would find people inside. And that in turn would surely mean food, which would be very welcome as, though no longer thirsty, he was still hungry. It was true that he and Astra had no money with which to pay for the food, but surely members of a religious order would be charitable and would give them something. He started towards the temple.
