The Missing Illusion

"I can detect no such illusion." Since Astra, Fred and Velus were the only ones unable to see her illusory dress, [52008] she had not realised that the illusion had failed. Had it just worn off with time, or was there another reason? An idea came to her.

"The magic bridge that we crossed earlier this morning," she said. "I couldn't see what the advantage would be over an ordinary one, but now I think that I can guess. Does it dispell illusions, by any chance?"

"Yes, it does. I'm sure that your illusory dress was innocent enough, but enemies might seek to enter the Inner Kingdom with more dangerous ones."

Interesting, Fred thought. It didn't affect Velus, prsumably because his spell is a genuine transformation rather than an illusion.

I wonder if Minestus will be able to cast a new spell to restore the illusion, Astra thought, or whether this land's magical defences will prevent it. If I have to be obviously naked from now on, it will make our task much harder.

Thinking that some explanation was called for, she told Kwan: "I am under a curse which prevents me wearing real clothes. An illusion was the next best thing."

1. "I'm sorry that you have been inconvenienced," Kwan said.
2. "I can do a little magic myself," Kwan told Astra. "Would you like me to give you a new illusory dress?"
