"Yes," Fred and Astra said in unison. "Well, if you will indulge me, I will tell you a little story." Neither Fred or Astra said anything, so he continued: "It is a common misconception that the people of the Three Kingdoms had always relied on magic for all their needs. One time in the past, we were much like other countries and had to work. The magic ability was there, but we had no way of properly harnessing it. It was outsiders such as yourself that helped us realise our potential and in the process possibly losing a part of our heritage. "This village was once the hub of a number of farms who used to bring their produce here to be sold. As the knowledge of proper magic use spread around the country, the farms were deserted as the owners and workers left for the towns to learn more. As a consequence, the villages themselves died and their inhabitants also eventually left." "So how come you live here?" Astra asked. "The villages and outlying farms were allowed to fall into ruin as nature and weather took their toll. More recently, like-minded people such as myself decided the decay had gone on for long enough. I chose this village as I have proof that at least several generations of my family had lived here prior to the period known as the Great Desertion. Ironically, the magic which caused this part of our history to fall into disrepair was instrumental in its restoration. This very house was where my ancestors lived." By this time Fred was getting restless. He was worried about Velus, who had not yet returned from chasing Kwan's cat. He made his apologies, and indicated for Astra to get up. Kwan was disappointed, but hid it well as he thanked them for agreeing to stop by. Many travellers through the village usually disregarded it altogether. The pair made to leave, but stopped when Kwan said, "There's just one more thing." They turned back to him."
