"Wouldn't you be better off going to the police? Or a hospital?" "I don't want to do that and get all tied up with officaldom. Maybe I'm a little paranoid. Anyway, can you help?"

The man thought for a moment. "Well, I don't remember seeing you before this morning. You were sitting at the table next to the counter with a well-dressed middle-aged man. He had graying hair, wore spectacles, was about six feet tall, weight about 200 pounds. I didn't overhear much of your conversation, but you called him 'Professor'. Then he said:

  1. "'You know too much. It would be convenient if you were to lose your memory.' Then he realised I was listening and clammed up."
  2. "'So I can't change your mind, Doctor Jones?' And you said: 'No.'"
  3. "Something in German, I think, which I couldn't understand."
  4. "'If you do that, you can say goodbye to your job.'"
