They stopped for an hour or so for a rest and a meal, and then resumed
their journey. After a few more hours the lengthening shadows told them
that sunset was not far away.
"This seems like a good spot to stop for the night," Henri said. They had reached a woodland glade through which a small stream ran, affording them the chance to replenish their water flasks. Astra concurred, so they tethered their horses and then set up the two single-person tents that the Helsingdonians had given them along with the supplies. (On the outward journey they had had to sleep in the open.) After their evening meal they turned in for the night. There seemed no need for one of them to remain on watch. People were few and far between in these parts.
