Astra has never believed in premonitions before. But then she has never
been a demifox before, and perhaps she is more accepting of such things in
her new form. Also she is aware that a lot of things that she would
previously have dismissed as impossible have happened to her in the last
few weeks.
"Something very bad is going to happen," she tells Synizn. "I don't know how I know, but I'm quite sure of it. I don't know what it will be, or when it will occur other than that it will be soon, or who it's going to happen to. But from the strength of the feeling, I assume that the 'victim' is going to be either myself, or my cubs, or Fred." (Interestingly, in this fully fox form, it seems more natural to her to refer to them as cubs, even though they themselves are still in the intermediate form in which they were born.) "You and your cubs ought to be safe enough here," Synizn replies. "So if anything bad does happen, it's most likely to be to Fred. I think that it's high time that I used the Crystallic to try to find out where he is. If I can get to him in time, I hope that I can stop whatever it is from occurring."
