The Never Ending Quest - Episode 57302

Fred (and Velus), Astra and Ambaric were shown to their rooms and pronounced them very satisfactory. Before the two Cedrics had departed, they had all arranged to meet in the main bar for their evening meal. So after Astra had freshened up from the ewer of water that her room contained for that purpose, she knocked on the door of Fred's adjacent room. "I'm just shaving," he called loud enough to be heard through the closed door. "I'll be about ten minutes. If you go down to the bar, Velus and I will join you there shortly."

The next room was Ambaric's. Again Astra knocked, but this time there was no reply. She presumed that Ambaric must already have left for the bar. Then she noticed that a strange green glow was visible underneath the door to the room. Was he performing magic, and concentrating too hard to respond to her knock? Or could he be in trouble? Should she enter, and check that he was all right, or could that be dangerous?

  1. She opened the door and went in.
  2. She decided that Ambaric was more than capable of looking after himself, and went on down to the bar.
  3. She tried the door, but it was locked (or at any rate would not open).
  4. Unnoticed by Astra, where the light spilling under the door fell on her illusory outfit, it started to change. The change began to spread upwards.
  5. Just then the light went out. The door opened, and Ambaric came out. "Hope you weren't worried," he said. "I was just practising my magical exercises. Magic's like music - you need to practise a lot."
