Ambaric went on to tell Astra about how he has to memorise literally
hundreds of spells, many of which only have the slightest differences to
them. It doesn't inspire confidence in the people you're trying to help if
you have to keep flipping though a spellbook. As with the differences, he used Cedric the Elder's horse as an example. There wasn't a generic healing spell he could cast. He had to be very specific about the injury and what being needs to be healed - Sometimes you have to be able to cast a spell extremely quickly, and it's essential you didn't mess up. Over the years few mistakes had been made, and these had been more costly than might be expected. Get everything right for a long period of time, and you'd give the people you were helping the impression you were infallible. This makes even the slightest mistake stand out. Even worse, trust that has built up over a period of many months could be wiped out in a stroke. It not only cast doubts on your reliability, but that of the order as well.
