In fact, the only idea that travellers were going from one country to the
other was a partly obscured sign stating that they were now entering the
Three Kingdoms. Coming from a country where every border was guarded
regardless of its relationship with its neighbours, this was a disturbing
sight and she felt she had to query Fred about it. His reply startled her.
"There is a border. A magical one. If it had perceived any threat coming from us, it wouldn't have let us through. From what I hear, The Three Kingdoms are fairly frugal. Having such a barrier saves them have to pay border guards, as well as making sure any defensive wall was always in good repair." Astra thought this didn't bode well for them. "Such a barrier would indicate a strong reliance on magic. That sends a shiver down my spine. Physical force I could deal with, but magic?" Fred nodded. "They do. After all, magic use is cheap. And more likely to scare people off," he added. Astra wasn't the only one worried. Minestus knew they would be heading into potentially dangerous territory here. With the distance involved, and magic being freely used, his chances of being able to help them were pretty hit and miss. So he took a potentially dangerous risk himself, by leaving the security of the Shreken and moving closer to where they were. By taking his human form of Lucieno, he would be able to better conceal himself, reverting to his more powerful dragon form only if strictly necessary.
