Lady Andrea de Croix was quite pleased at this development. At 18, she was
sick of being treated like a child and being kept inside the castle. And
she had no desire to suceed her father as leader of the realm of Croix, and
take up all the boring responsibilities that it entailed. So now, shortly
after her 18th birthday, she had left the castle and embarked on a journey
to wherever the road took her. She had seen a drowning swimmer, and went to
rescue him. And now she had found a handsome young man, in need of rescue.
She had hoped something like this would happen. Perhaps he would become
interested in her. She prepared to rescue him. Andrea already knew how to swim, having previously snuck out to this lake as a child against her father's wishes, and learned from the peasant children. That was so long ago she couldn't remember much of it, but she did remember how to swim. She leapt into the lake and swam toward him. She then helped get him out of the lake. Andrea then put the man down on the shores of the lake. The man was quite exhausted from all the effort he had expended in the lake, and for a while only panted. After he had caught his breath, he said, "Thanks for rescuing me. Who are you?" "I'm Andrea de Croix," said Andrea, smiling. "Who are you?" The man responded...
