A Strange Sort of Mermaid

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 54369

Exotica could see that what had at first appeared to be merely a pool was a stream that disappeared into a tunnel in the side of the cave. The water wasn't very deep, but there was just enough for her to swim downstream with powerful strokes. Fortunately the water seemed to be slightly phosphorescent, so there was just enough light for her to see by.

But she couldn't see her back, of course. Had she been able to do so, she would have found that she had become a rather strange variant of mermaid. Instead of being human from the waist up and fish from the waist down, she had fish-like scales on her back, and by now they had spread over her buttocks and down the backs of her thighs.

Then the stream emerged from the tunnel into a great underground lake.
Exotica changed further. A dorsal fin grew on her back, and her fingers and toes became joined by webbing.
