Fred runs around, making mincemeat - for want of a better word - of
various creatures that called the caves their home. They offered no
challenge to Fred, and, as he slayed his umpteenth creature, he slowly
remembered what he had been sent to the Shreken to do. Slay the dragon.
Right on cue, he ran into the dragon's lair. In a game, this would have
triggered a cut scene. The dragon was there, on his mound of treasure. However something was wrong. He cowered away from Fred, and was shivering, shivering! Fred sheathed his sword and looked up at the trembling beast. "Ho!" he said. "So what has happened to the terrible beast that's caused havoc for nigh on seven centuries? The dragon I heard so many tales about in my youth?" The dragon's (stuttered) reply took him aback. "I-I'm not t- that dragon. I-I've only b-been here a-around twenty y-years." Twenty years? Fred thought. If he's telling the truth, he's only been here as long as I've been alive. I wonder... "If that's true, what happened to the other dragon?" he demanded. My m-master, the O-one Shoggoth, f- fought and k-killed him. I-I took i-it's place, s-so not t-to arouse a-any suspicions." Fred had been partially expecting that revelation, but still... He was interrupted by Velus running fearlessly at the dragon, barking loudly. It echoed around the cave, making it seem far worse than it actually was. The dragon shrieked, a noise Fred was certain that no dragon should be able to make. "G-Get it a-away from m-me! Annoying, n- noisy c-creature." "He probably wants you to change him back," Fred observed.
