What Freda Wants

The witch frowned. "So what else can I offer you then, for you to help me?"

"Don't listen to her, Freda," Astra said.

But Freda responded: "Can you magic away the excess weight that I've gained?" Astra groaned. How could Freda be so vain as to put her own looks ahead of her friend's life?

1. "Yes, of course. In fact it's far easier to take it off than it was to make you gain it." There was a bright flash of light, and Freda's extra fifteen pounds vanished.
2. "Yes, of course. But the spell will take a little time, so let's leave it until after we've dealt with your friend, shall we?" Would Freda fall for this?
3. With surprising honesty, the crone said: "No, I'm afraid not. Is there anything else that you want?"
