The winged beasts were not large, only the size of a house-cat, but by
sheer numbers they began to take their toll on the knight. Fred's flesh
was safe from their dangerous bite as the Flamebane covered him from head
to foot, even his neck was covered in chainlink. But though the creatures
were unable to bite, they could still buffet, and push they did.
Fred's sword swung wide and hard cutting through leathery wing and furred stomach. Blood spurt about like spray on the high seas. Fred could feel the wood of the skiff below his booted legs, but he knew that the little monsters were driving him to the left side of the craft. He knew that it was beginning to tip, even if only from his weight and that of the armour. they do mean to drive me over and drown me! he thought.
