The Incredible Lightness of Flamebane

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 50431

Fred toppled into the water. His sword fell on the skiff. Fred took a deep breath, and braced himself for an icy plunge. He did not sink! It was a miracle. He landed belly side down, but his head was above the water. The Flamebane armor not only was light enough where he did not drown, but it insulated him from the chilly lake. Just a little water leaked in the seam between the gauntlets and the Flamebane sleeve.

He had bought some time. Those treacherous bats still swarmed around the skiff. He thought, "What should I do? The skiff perhaps led to the place he needed to go - and his sword was still there. Toward the left was a faint beam of light coming from the roof of the cave. The fog obscured any landmarks, and Fred had no way of judging the distance to the light. It could be a small pencil of light just a short distance away, or a large patch of light that was far away.

Fred continued to float on the water. The bats were leaving him alone.

What does Fred do?

  1. Continue floating in place, and hope that the bats dissipate.
  2. Try to swim back to the skiff, and hold on to it in hopes that it will take him to his destination. He would have to hope that the bats did not have any more surprises for him.
  3. Start swimming toward the light in the cave roof.
  4. Swim away from the light and the bats, in hopes of returning toward the shore of the subterranean lake.
