Astrid's Choice

Astrid was not sure what to do. For a naked woman to throw herself on the mercy of pirates would surely be an act of utter folly, so she quickly ruled that out. Could they build a raft and escape from the island that way? But that would take days, maybe weeks, and - if what Belboz told her was true - she might not have too long before Astra's true personality was irretrievably lost. Waiting for another ship to come along would probably mean an even longer delay. But if she used the second wish, then any hope of being able to "cure" Astra or herself, or of ultimately defeating the dragon, would be greatly reduced.

Eventually she made up her mind. "There's nothing else for it," she told Astra. "I'm going to have to use my second wish to get us off this island. I wish:

1. "That we were back in the Southern Caves, wherever Velus is."
2. "That we were back in the Southern Caves, but not where Velus is."
3. "Wait a minute. Perhaps I can kill two birds with one stone. If there is any mage other than Belboz with enough power to help you, Astra, then I wish for you to take us to him."
4. "That we were back in the royal palace at Caemlyn. If I can convince the King of who I am, then I can get myself re-equipped there. And the court mage might be able to help you."
